Motivation Monday

Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn.” –Benjamin Franklin

Are you in need of some Monday motivation?

I’ve put together a weekly collection of 3 fun things that recently caught my attention that I believe can help give you a boost of inspiration to get your week kicked off in the best possible way.

Enjoy!

1. What I am reading…..

The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari: A Fable about Fulfilling Your Dreams & Reaching Your Destiny

‘The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari’ is a thought-provoking book by Robin Sharma.

It’s one that will certainly make you give some thought to your life, your goals, your dreams and how your daily habits help you reach those dreams.

The fictional story is about a successful lawyer named Julian Mantle who seems to have everything in life. His success id defined by his material wealth.

However, one day the pressure and stress of his work life takes its toll. He has a heart attack and disappears only to return enlightened on a more spiritual path.

The message of the book defines the seven virtues essential for a life of inner peace, joy, and a spiritual wealth.

  • Master Your Mind
  • Follow Your Purpose
  • Practice Kaizen
  • The Power of Discipline
  • Respect Your Time
  • Selflessly Serve Others
  • Embrace the Present

Each of these Virtues is discussed in some detail in separate chapters, each of them with a number of concepts and habits to develop. Most of them are very inspiring and potentially very useful.

This was the second or third time of reading this book. I was inspired greatly by the general theme and enjoyed it immensely.

2. What I am listening to….

JAMES CLEAR ON BUILDING MEANINGFUL, SUSTAINABLE HABITS

‘Finding Mastery’ is a podcast hosted by high performance psychologist; Dr. Michael Gervais. He focuses on exploring how the best in the world master their craft.

If you were lucky enough to read and enjoy the book ‘Atomic Habits’ by James Clear you will love this conversation.

They explore habits, decision-making, and continuous improvement.

They dive into some best practices for habit development and how to create a system that is organized toward the outcome you desire.

3. What I am watching….

Wakefield — new ABC series looks at mental health and treatment from the inside out

The 8 episode show is set inside a psychiatric hospital in the majestic Blue Mountains. It explores the hazy boundaries between sanity and madness, stability and instability.

Each episode is told from different characters’ point of view, with scenes and incidents overlapping so as to “bend time” and create, compellingly at times, different versions of unfolding events.

The main story focuses on a psych nurse at Wakefield, called Nik Katira (Rudi Dharmalingam).  He is extremely good at his job with a gift for comforting the afflicted and reaching the unreachable.

He seems the most stable person in what tends to be a pretty crazy place. However, over time his own grip on his own sanity starts to slip and you start to question why?

This is an intriguing psychological mystery that unfolds to an unforgettable, emotional climax.
