We are at that time again when we start thinking about fresh starts and New Years Resolutions.
What do you want to be doing differently in 2019?
Do you want a big career change? Do you want to start a new business venture ? Or are your goals focused towards health and fitness?
All are noble worthy causes for consideration. Alternatively, I want to suggest something slightly different where to invest your time and energy. It has the potential to change the quality of your life and also help you reach those other goals more easily.
Traditionally New Years Resolutions have a pretty poor success rate for most people. Research suggests 95% fail within the first 2 weeks.
Why is that ? What limits us from sticking to our goals?
The most common reason is we do not have control of our mind. We do not have control of our thoughts, feeling and emotional responses. Humans hate change. Change is perceived as a threat. When our bodies detect a threat it is wired to fight or flight. This is where the problem starts for New Years Resolutions. We have been conditioned to respond in a certain manner, therefore our mindset is not prepared to face the challenge. We subconsciously sabotage our efforts.
So what can we do?
We can learn how to take back control. We can learn the art of mindfulness. It takes a little time and efforts, but it is worth it!
You will gain clarity around decision making.
You will become more decisive when faced with challenge.
You will perform better under pressure.
You will become less stressed and more calm with daily life.
You will become more focused and less emotionally reactive.
There are many books or online stuff that can help, but i strongly recommend joining a group program where you can learn from a teacher in a supported environment.
If you need any help feel free to contact me. I will be running a 6 week mindfulness program for a small group of up to 12 in Sydney from February 2019. If you have any interest, questions or want more details drop me a line.
Let’s make 2019 a year to remember!!
